COVID Press Conference

As an avid Islanders fan, County Executive Curran sought to bring the Isles back to their rightful home: Nassau County. She strongly supported the UBS Belmont arena project from day one, because it accomplishes three important goals: it keeps the Islanders in Nassau, creates thousands of local jobs, and includes the construction of new Long Island Rail Road station — the first new major LIRR station in 50 years. The Belmont Arena represents an influx of more than a billion dollars into Nassau’s economy, and will create more than 10,000 construction and permanent jobs at the new arena – not just for hockey, but also for other entertainment and retail. These new jobs will anchor the communities around the complex for years to come.

The project will turn an under-utilized state park into a major generator of tax dollars, which will in turn be reinvested into Nassau communities. Belmont will be an economic engine, creating good-paying jobs and an exciting new destination for residents and visitors. The opening of this arena is vital to County Executive Curran’s goal of making Nassau County a more vibrant place to live, work, and play.
