Eight Major Building and Construction Trades Unions Endorse County Executive Laura Curran for Re-Election

Unions representing tens of thousands of Nassau members back Curran calling her the County Executive who’s “led us through it all”

(BALDWIN, NY) - Today, County Executive Laura Curran’s campaign announced the endorsement of eight building and construction trades unions in her re-election bid. The unions become the first endorsers in this race and come before the Nassau GOP has even named a candidate to challenge Curran; demonstrating the commitment of union labor to be with the County Executive as she’s been there for them. The coalition is comprised of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 15, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30, Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 25, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1049, Laborers International Union Local 1298, and International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 282. After formally endorsing County Executive Curran for re-election, each organization released the following statements:

“The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30 is proud to endorse Laura Curran’s re-election campaign,” said Bill Lynn, Business Manager. “Throughout her administration, Laura has been a leader that gets things done for working families, prioritizing infrastructure development and in doing so, fighting for our members.”

“Laura Curran has been a champion for the IUOE,” said IUOE Local 138 Business Manager John Duffy. “Her steady leadership and focus on infrastructure throughout these challenging times make us proud to stand behind her. The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138 proudly endorses Laura Curran for Nassau County Executive.”

“County Executive Curran has been a true infrastructure leader,” said IUOE Local 15 President Tom Callahan. “She has led the way on paving our roads and spearheaded construction projects that keep our skilled members working. International Union of Operating Engineers Local 15 is honored to endorse her re-election for Nassau County Executive.”

“Since the beginning of her administration, County Executive Curran has always supported our hardworking members,” said President and Business Manager of Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers, Eric Meslin. “She has been a champion of smart development that includes skilled union work. Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers is proud to endorse her for Nassau County Executive.”

“International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 282 endorses Laura Curran for her re-election as Nassau County Executive,” said Business Manager, Tommy Gesualdi. “County Executive Curran has been a strong advocate of projects like the HUB and Belmont Stadium, which directly employ our members. County Executive Curran has always been there for us, and we are proud to stand behind her for another four years.”

“County Executive Laura Curran has been a steadfast advocate for workers and IBEW Local 25,” said Business Manager Kevin Casey. “Throughout her career and the pandemic she has stood up for working families even when it wasn't easy. She has kept her promise to fight for our members. We are excited to endorse her reelection and look forward to her continued leadership.”

“IBEW Local 1049 is thrilled to endorse Laura Curran for her re-election as Nassau County Executive,” said Business Manager Patrick Guidice. “Laura is a proven advocate for labor, stepping up to help our members when we need it most and keeping her door open to hear our needs. She is the leader we need to stand up for workers, take on tough fights, and help Nassau make a full recovery from the pandemic.”

“Laborers International Union Local 1298 is honored to endorse Laura Curran for Nassau County Executive,” said President George Truicko, Jr. “She has always been there for us, working to make Nassau better by developing building plans that create union jobs and support families. We are proud to stand behind her re-election for Nassau County Executive.”

Laura Curran is currently serving her first term as County Executive. She has never shied away from taking on the tough fights that make things better for Nassau families and has been Nassau’s leader through it all. After receiving the endorsements Laura Curran released the following statement: “I am grateful to receive sustained support from our local unions and labor community. I look forward to working hand in hand with them to continue the work of reopening our economy and fighting for working families.”
