Endorsement: Eleanor’s Legacy Endorses Laura Curran for County Executive

Today, Eleanor’s Legacy, a group dedicated to electing New York women to public office, endorsed Democratic Candidate Laura Curran to be Nassau’s next County Executive. Eleanor’s Legacy, which usually refrains from endorsing in Primaries, is the only women’s organization to endorse a candidate in the County Executive’s race.

“We are ecstatic to endorse Laura Curran to be Nassau’s next County Executive,” said Brette McSweeney of Eleanor’s Legacy. “Laura has been an outspoken champion for women’s rights and a model for the type of public servant we work to elect up and down the ballot. She’s already committed to a goal of filling at least half of the senior positions in her administration with women, and ensuring they receive equal pay for equal work. Furthermore, we trust that Laura will stand up to Donald Trump and Washington Republicans as they lead an assault on women’s healthcare rights. Laura is the right leader with the right vision at the right time for Nassau County and we are excited to work with her to make progress for Nassau residents."

After receiving the endorsement of Eleanor’s Legacy, Laura Curran released the following statement:

“I am humbled and honored to be endorsed by Eleanor’s Legacy, which has been instrumental in helping elect women to office throughout New York. Eleanor Roosevelt’s work to advance women’s rights in America is an inspiration and it’s in that spirit that I’ll be a champion for women in Nassau County. I will fight every day to advance workplace opportunities for women in Nassau and to make sure they’re getting equal pay for equal work. The good old boys club has failed Nassau taxpayers, and I will bring the new leadership and vision our County so desperately needs. I can’t wait to join Eleanor’s Legacy on the campaign trail and work with them to turn Nassau County around.”

The Eleanor’s Legacy endorsement comes the day after Curran received the endorsement of the Working Families Party. Curran is the only candidate to date to receive support from organized labor groups - earning the backing of four local unions. She is also endorsed by State Senators Todd Kaminsky and John Brooks as well as the Nassau County Democratic Committee's Executive Committee and its Chairman, Jay Jacobs.
